More Than 100 People Feared To Be Dead In Sabarimala Stampede

Pathanamthitta: In a most unfortunate incident of recent times more than 100 pilgrims are believed to have lost their lives. Almost equal number of people are expected to be severely injury. Though the exact cause that led to the stampede is yet to be confirmed, rumors indicate that the events started when a jeep carrying pilgrims rushed into pilgrims returning from the Sabarimala creating a panic wave. Sabarimala is one of the popular shrines in Southern India visited by millions every year. Today being the most auspicious day of the year at shrine, thousands of people had gathered the place to witness the Makarajyothi.

The incident happened at 8:15 PM and the rescue operations are still in the low pace since the officials are finding it difficult to reach the accident spot for more than one reason. The roads leading to the accident spot is entirely blocked by the vehicles and pilgrims returning from the spot. The place being a remote forest area makes the rescue operation a great deal of challenge. The complication is more as it is dark and the weather is unfavorable at the place. All arrangements are done at nearby hospital to treat the injured.

Top Police officials including the Director General of Police and Inspector General of Police are on their way to the place. Though many people are willing to volunteer the rescue operation, reach is very limited.
